Why is dental coverage important?

Without insurance, dental costs can add up quickly—leading many people to skip cleanings and checkups. Neglected dental issues can have cascading effects on physical health. A dental plan helps you stay on track with routine care and avoid costly issues.

What doesn't Dental insurance cover?

In general, basic dental insurance coverage includes three categories.

  1. Preventive Care
This covers basic dental costs that are meant to prevent dental problems. These services include cleaning, checkups, and scheduled x-rays meant to prevent tooth and gum disease. This coverage is generally covered at the higher cost share by the insurance company to encourage people to seek regular dental care to prevent more complicated and costly problems.
  2. Basic Procedures
Includes fillings, extractions, and periodontal Maintenance. Most plans cover a portion of these services.
  3. Major Services
Major serivces includes crowns, root canals, bridges, dentures, etc.

When can I enroll in a dental plan?

Unlike the general health insurance, you can enroll in stand-alone dental coverage at anytime without an enrollment period.  Some plans provide day 1 coverage, meaning you can start mid-month if needed and use the plan right away.
